WATCHES AND WARNINGS

There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
 
Interests in the Hawaiian Islands should closely monitor the
progress of this system.  Watches may be required for a portion of
the Hawaiian Islands tonight or Friday.
 
 
DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK
----------------------
At 1100 AM HST (2100 UTC), the center of Tropical Depression Two-C 
was located near latitude 12.5 North, longitude 143.8 West. The 
depression is moving toward the west-northwest near 15 mph (24 km/h) 
and this general motion is expected during the next few days. On 
the forecast track, the center of the system is expected to pass 
near or south of the Big Island of Hawaii this weekend.
 
Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph (55 km/h) with higher gusts. 
Gradual strengthening is forecast, and the depression could become a 
tropical storm later today.
 
The estimated minimum central pressure is 1006 mb (29.71 inches).
 
 
HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND
----------------------
Key messages for Tropical Depression Two-C can be found in
the Tropical Cyclone Discussion under AWIPS header HFOTCPCP3 and
WMO header WTPA43 PHFO.
 
RAINFALL: The tropical depression is expected to produce rainfall
totals of 5 to 10 inches with maximum amounts of 15 inches across
the Big Island.  Rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches with maximum
amounts of 5 inches are expected across the remainder of the
Hawaiian Islands this weekend and early next week.  This rainfall
may produce life-threatening flooding and mudslides, especially in
steep terrain and over areas that were affected recently by Lala.
 
SURF:  Swells generated by the depression are expected to affect
portions of the Hawaiian Islands ths weekend, and could cause
life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.  Please consult
products from your local weather office.
